Blue is the first in The Three Colors Trilogy, themed on the French Revolutionary ideals; it is followed by White and Red.The blue, white, red, the original trilogy from the French national colors; they were a symbol of liberty, equality and fraternity. Julie, wife of the famous composer Patrice de Courcy, must cope with the death of her husband and daughter in an automobile accident she herself survives. Bearing the heavy Pain Julie is determined to give up life, in ruin desire and lust of fierce battle to survive, Julie finally decided to continue to live. To stay away from the past, Julie takes an apartment in Paris
Julie instinctively seeks consolation and protection, she tried to talk to her mother, but living in resthome as the mother can not save her, can’t even recognize Julie.
What is the ultimate way to gain new hope? Julie has been looking for it a long time. Not her mother or other people, but is the blue and music. Music and Blue play an intricate element of the plot in that it illustrates Julie's efforts to be isolated from everything but cannot do it. A common scene to the film is Julie swims in the blue pool. In the blue water she may find a new way to relieve her pain which link to her cruel past. Water is the starting point and blue pool as the shelter, giving Julie the big comfort. Now blue is not represents a fear but stand for the information of life. In the final plot, we saw Julie finished with the painful process and saw new hope, however, the theme hopes of life and death, pain and survival is to extend.
